I’m looking at the list of events for Spokane’s First Friday art walk tomorrow and there are several great shows opening, but the show I am most excited for is Sext at the Kolva-Sullivan.
Sext is an all-text art show with poetry about gender and sex organized by local artists Chris Dreyer and Naaman Cordova-Muenzberg. The poets will be reading their work aloud and they’ll be doing it in their underwear.
What makes Sext so exciting is that it takes a very important contemporary social issue and presents it in an honest, conceptual way. I expect a certain amount of awkwardness in the poetry and underwear clad poets, but great art experiences often do.
Sext artist reception: Friday, April 1, 6-9pm. Poetry reading on Saturday, April 16 at 6pm, $5 or donation of underwear for YWCA.
As always, I will be popping into the Saranac. This month’s show “Skin & Earth” feature artists Margot Casstevens and Dan McCann.
Even the Banana Republic is in on First Friday. Maybe I’ll pass through there on my way to less corporate art environments.
